British-American tenor and Toulmin Foundation Scholar Joshua Blue, from Haywards Heath, UK, is a Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist with the Washington National Opera.
As an artist with WNO, Blue recently made his Kennedy Center main stage debut as Alfredo Germont in Verdi's La Traviata (Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Performance). Throughout the WNO season, Blue will perform as Hippo/Holy man/Dog/Water Seller in Tesori's The Lion, The Unicorn, and Me;David in Benavides's Pepito, as part of the American Opera Initiative Festival; and Monsieur Triquet in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin.Blue will also be returning to Carnegie Hall as the tenor soloist in Verdi's Requiemwith the Oratorio Society of New York. This summer, Blue joins Wolf Trap Opera as a Filene Artist, singing the role of Harlekin in Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis.
In 2017-2018, Blue debut at Carnegie Hall in Handel's Messiah with Musica Sacra, and returned again to perform in the world premier of Moravec's Sanctuary Roadwith Oratorio Society. Blue also made debuts at Merkin Concert Hall with New York Festival of Song, and with Austin Opera as Scaramuccio in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos.In recent Summers, Blue has been an Apprentice Singer with the Santa Fe Opera, a Gaddes Festival Artist with the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis where he sang in the American Premier of Philip Glass's The Trial,and a Vocal Fellow with Music Academy of the West where he portrayed Nemorino in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore.
Blue was a semi-finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and sang on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera in April of 2018. He has also received the Ellen Lopin Blair award for 1st place in the 2017 Oratorio Society of New York solo competition, and was noted as an Emerging Artist in the 2017 Opera Index Competition in New York City.
Blue earned his bachelor's degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2016, and recently graduated from The Juilliard School with a master's degree, studying with Dr. Robert C. White, Jr.
