The first time I used an information system was to connect an Access Matrix computer, powered by a Zilog Z80 processor and built-in 300buad modem, to a fellow boy scout’s computer. It was the late 1980’s and this information system gave my troop an advantage in neighborhood wide games of capture-the-flag. Although walkie-talkies are much faster forms of communication, we used them for listening in on the opposing scout troops. Twenty years later I am still applying my network, security, and administration abilities. I am currently a student at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. I have enjoyed learning about, and applying, a greater range of Information Technology concepts. Using lessons learned in software development, project management, and database administration I have designed a data warehouse for a pharmaceutical company, built a web application that maps a grocery list to the location of the items in a store, and integrated an Active Directory domain with Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server and Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Server. Ever since a younger and more nimble me climbed through rafters and behind walls to pull network cable for my father’s small business I have known Information Technology would play a role in my life. Now I have the chance to impact the role of Information Technology.
