I sincerely believe that everyone wants to see themselves as more than just another face lost in the crowd. It's that inherent need to stand out that propels us forward and pushes us to fight to be something. Whatever we choose to fight for in life, we want to be more than a footsoldier. I think we all fight battles. We all fight our own demons. When it comes down to it, I believe it's because we were created for something more important. It is in the daily struggles that our character is determined. I think the most important thing about me is not who I am, but what I am fighting to become. Both Homer and the Apostle Paul used the word Arete to describe a certain quality that they admired and saw as a necessary trait. It translates to goodness but it really means so much more. Arete was an ideal, a warriors virtue. It stood for the notion of believing in what is good and what is right to the point that you are willing to fight for and die for it.
