Joshua Pâté
Student in Barrie, ON, Canada
I was born in Barrie, Ontario on March 23rd, 1998. Seeing as my dad is from Nova-Scotia, much of my family lives on Cape Breton island. That said, my mom is from the Barrie area, and consequently I spent lots of time with my grandparents on her side until both passed away at a young age. Both my parents have ties in music, and so it was easy for them to choose to enroll me in piano lessons from the young age of three. I also began singing in the church choir around this time. A couple years later, I began enrolling in a multitude of sports, until I discovered my love for basketball. Several years later, I have up-kept both passions; I am studying music at a post-secondary level, as well as singing in choir and playing basketball recreationally.
Through elementary and secondary school, I was blessed with a natural ability to succeed in academics. This was, however, not the case for several people in my life, including my younger brother, whose diagnosed learning disabilities have had a significant impact on his schooling from a young age. Part of my aspirations of teaching are to help facilitate styles of learning applicable to as many diverse learning styles as possible, all the while striving to make a connection with students and being a positive role model. My goal is to give back to a community that helped nurture me, in a way that is as accessible as possible for everyone!
