Joshua Tanis

New York | New Jersey

Beginning his piano studies as an autodidact, Joshua Tanis discovered his gift as a pianist at just three years of age. Through the years, Mr. Tanis was exposed to many teachers while studying piano music primarily from the Classical and Romantic Eras. His most recent teacher, of ten years, is Mrs. Ann Lewkiewicz, from whom he has received the invaluable knowledge of forming thoughtful and carefully crafted musical interpretations.

Throughout high school, Mr. Tanis began to teach himself the art of collaborative piano and worked frequently with vocalists, choirs and orchestras. Returning to his autodidactic tendencies, he integrated his knowledge of solo piano performance and his sensitive ear for accompanying to begin understanding the art of collaborative piano.

Aside from piano, Mr. Tanis has found himself expanding his artistic interests to voice and theatre during his high school and college years. Mr. Tanis' teen years were a time of extreme and humbling accomplishment. 2008 marked a special year for Mr. Tanis as he made his Carnegie Hall debut in a select choral performance, and was a distinguished artist to be invited to perform at the opening of the Olympic Village in Beijing, China. In May of 2010, Mr. Tanis made his second appearance at Carnegie Hall.

A recent graduate of the University at Albany, Mr. Tanis has completed a dual degree in Music and Biology. In Albany, Mr. Tanis has worked regularly with Mosaic-Arts Opera, the University at Albany Voice Department and Theatre Department. He was the President and Music Director of the UAlbany Musical Theatre Association, a member of, Assistant Conductor, and pianist for the University Chamber Singers. He serves as a collaborative pianist and frequent recitalist in the both the New York City Area and the New York Capital Region. Mr. Tanis is a proud advocate for the arts, humanitarian, philanthropist, skin-care reviewer and co-author of the Now You Tell Me! book series. Upcoming projects include the planning of a busy fall recital schedule, working as a pianist at the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice and attending Hunter College in the Fall of 2013 - pursuing a Master's degree in Musicology and Collaborative Piano. www.joshuatanis.com
