Joyce Martin

Joyce Martin, a teacher by profession, has been working in the area of e-learning for over 20 years and directed several major government-funded initiatives to encourage the appropriate use of technology for teaching and learning in Higher and Further Education as well as the school sector.

She is a past President of the Association for Learning Technology and Co-Chaired the ALT Conference at the University of Bristol.

In 2008, Joyce helped establish a government funded initiative, ‘JISC Collections for Schools’. It was modelled on ‘JISC Collections’ – the organisation which procures digital content for education and research for Higher and Further Education. The initiative demonstrated the demand from schools for high-quality e-resources from trusted sources so when the government funding came to an end in 2011 Joyce established ‘JCS Online Resources’ as her own company. JCS has expanded into making subscription resources available to Further Education and Public Libraries as well as schools worldwide.

Joyce is a regular speaker at librarian meetings and other events and also runs workshops on the effective use of e-resources and ways to promote them. She is now working in partnership with Sue Bastone (Head of Learning Resources, LVS Ascot and School Library Consultant and Trainer) to deliver training in information literacy for the digital age.
