Joyce S Schwensen, founder of the Law Offices of Joyce S Schwensen in Seattle, devoted herself to a variety of legal areas. From small business matter to real estate and family situations, she gives each client her personal attention and dedicated care. Her background includes graduating summa cum laude from Washington State University with a BA in History, and continuing on to earn a J.D. from the University of Washington Law School. She became licensed to practice law in 1984 and began expanding her knowledge by studying various legal areas.
Real Estate law is a topic that Joyce approaches with precision and attention to detail. Whether a house is being purchased or a landlord is deputing an issue with a tenant, every aspect can have big effects on a case. Similarly, small business endeavors can involve large financial investments, leading to huge consequences for those involved. If a business is being purchased, sold, or opened, complex legal issues can arise, and a skilled lawyer can be necessary to ensure that every step is properly completed. An area that Joyce feels particular passion for is family law, especially adoption matters. With two adopted children of her own, Joyce knows the emotions that can be involved in adoption and how to navigate the complicated legal procedures needed to adopt a child. Beyond simple adoptions, she also has experience in handling extended family adoptions, international re-adoption, and step-family situations.
Since her entry into the legal field, she has shared her knowledge with fellow attorneys through continuing education classes on adoption law and real estate law. In 2001, Joyce established the Adoption Assistance and Homestudy Services, where she aided birth parents and adoptive parents in finding each other and provided homes for many children in need. She served as Executive Director for this organization until 2011.
