Joy Wan
Inspired by the complexity of the sciences, Joy enjoys investigating and understanding biological processes. She is excited to pursue PhD studies in biology at Stanford University this coming fall. Her research interests include neurobiology/molecular biology. Specifically, she is fascinated by developmental neuroscience and the molecular mechanisms underlying sleep and psychiatric disorders.
She recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master of biotechnology. During her time at Penn, she conducted research in Dr. Amita Sehgal's lab in the Department of Neuroscience at the Perelman School of Medicine. Additionally, she was a fellow at the Center for Technology Transfer at Penn. She assisted the technology licensing officers in evaluating inventions disclosed by Penn researchers in STEM and the marketing fellows in their outreach to potential licensees. Joy also graduated from Princeton University in 2012 with a B.A. in molecular biology and a certificate in French language and culture.
Her career aspirations revolve around her passion for enriching the lives of people and empowering people with knowledge. Ultimately, she hopes to work in the medical field, either in academia/translational research or in industry.
A prize-winning harpist and amateur pianist, she is an avid fan of arts and culture. Among her many interests, she enjoys philosophy, reading, traveling, photography, and a great sense of humor.
