Social entrepreneurship is startup techniques of companies and other entrepreneurs to develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. The concept can be applied to multiple organization of different sizes, aims and beliefs. Couple of the examples that we talked about in class is Tom’s shoes and, Give and Take. Another social entrepreneurship in my local home town of Waianae Oahu is MA’O Organic Farms. Founded by Gary Maunaekea-Forth. They help kids in the community learn how to grow and farm their own food to life a self-sustaining lifestyle in Hawaii. MA’O farms help support local food businesses whose aims are to promote a healthy lifestyle by eating organic. Another example of a social entrepreneurship business man named Muhammad Yunus who is the founder of Grameen bank. Grameen Bank is an institution that provides microcredit loans to those in need of helping them develop a self-sufficient business. He is also the author of a book that helped share knowledge about his expertise in microfinance and social capitalism. Scott Harrison is another example of a Social entrepreneur. He had the idea of bringing clean water to people who lack the resources or accessibility. His organization gives away 100% of their profits along with creating his own way of social entrepreneurship.
What I want out of this is to give me a basic understanding of how to start up my own business later on down the road. Although it is nice to help people out I would like to turn a profit from my business and have my business work for me not the other way around. Having my product sell its self while I sleep and get up and most of the work is done. It might be a long shot but I would just like to have a real solid back ground on how to promote, impact and sustain my own company.
