“The United States is in the midst of a prescription opioid overdose epidemic. Every day, 44 people in the United States die from prescription opioid overdose and many more become addicted.”(Department of Health and Human Services, 2015)

Ten years ago, I suffered from an addiction to prescription opioid painkillers following a painful medical condition. It began in 2006 and lasted until 2008. In that short time, it destroyed everything that I had worked for.

Luckily, I received extended treatment and was able to regain my life and my career. But without the help of my family and friends, I'm not sure where I would be right now.

If you, or someone you love, is going through addiction to prescription pain medication, please seek help through your healthcare provider.

I was given a second chance. I'm now working, once again, in the field of physical therapy and medical fitness to help those in need of my services.

Thanks to those who helped me and had faith in me!!

I recommend a recent book by Patrick Kennedy (former US Congressman and son of Sen. Edward Kennedy) "A Common Struggle" details Patrick's roller-coaster life of addiction and the stigma of mental health disorders. He describes the family pattern of his affliction and how it impacted his career as well as those around him.

Working as a physical therapist is what I'm born to do. Physical therapist use their knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and biomechanics to help people regain their function, mobility, and independence. Physical therapists also help injured athletes return to their sports.

In addition to being a physical therapist, I am also a Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. This certification allows me to evaluate and prescribe specific exercise programs for clients suffering from many medical and chronic health conditions.
