I don't like Ted Nugent much...I figured he made up this phony account of how he outsmarted the USA when it came to being asked to serve.

When I got drafted,I thought that was it for me. I knew I was not going to kill anyone in Vietnam.....they trained me, and I fired expert with the m-14....sent me to San Antonio to learn to be a combat medic, and sent me to Vietnam. The sergeant said, with disdain, if you see the enemy, hit him over the head with your shovel, and we will finish him off. I won a bronze star for valor in combat---and was allowed to audition for a band, and ran across this guy...Neil Larsen. http://neillarsen.net/bio/ how Ironic...that I was awarded the greatest musical scholarship any musician could have asked for......9 months of daily performing and practicing with someone like Neil...there were a lot of good musicians in the first air cavalry. To this day, I do not know why, but we even performed in the jungles of Cambodia.Quote:Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, Neil was deployed to Viet Nam as an infantry soldier. After several months there, he was re-assigned to a special services unit, serving as a band leader of a rock band comprised of infantry soldiers that toured around Viet Nam & performed for U.S. soldiers. (what a lucky break for me to be in a band with Neil and the others in the first air cavalry--thank you captain Gentry....sorry about throwing rocks at that helicopter that seemed like they wanted to blow our equipment all over the field.
