Rev. Johnny R. Calhoun

Rev. Johnny R. Calhoun is a native of Washington D.C. A son of Melvin and Olivia Calhoun, who matriculated in the D.C. Public School system. He attended Mackin High School and Morgan State University - Accounting, while completing his theological training at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, MD.

In 1977 Rev. Calhoun began working at Procter Gamble in Philadelphia, after graduating from Morgan State. He also worked at the Service Bureau Company, and Control Data Corporation where he managed marketing representatives at twelve small business centers throughout the nation.

Shortly thereafter, he joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, Baltimore MD and gave his life to Christ. He became a licensed exhorter in 1980. Rev. Calhoun left the corporate arena temporarily in 1983 to become the first administrator of Bethel AME Church and the minister of Stewardship & Finance under the pastorate of Rev. (now Bishop) John R. Bryant - his father in the ministry.

In 1985, Rev. Calhoun was ordained a deacon and was transferred to Waters AME Church to serve as their Assistant Pastor, under the pastorate of Rev. John W. Duckette - whom he affectionately calls his "uncle in the ministry". After serving two years in that capacity, he took several positions at Control Data Corporation and Honeywell. In 1986, as an ordained Deacon, he was appointed the pastor of Adams Metropolitan AME Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. While pastoring in Charlotte, Rev. Calhoun married the former Patricia Riley and had he first child - Nile Emmanuel. Over the next thirteen years he pastored churches in Charlotte, Asheville and Wilmington, NC and became the father of Nia Keturah and Nubia Faith.

In 1992, he left the corporate world for good and entered the full time gospel ministry. In 1999, Rev. Calhoun was appointed the Senior Pastor of Mount Olive AME Church, Annapolis MD. He has overseen the expansion of the church and its ministries, the establishment of a $3 million community center and its community development corporation and The Harambee House - outreach center. While in Annapolis, he became the founding President of the Annapolis Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (AIMA) and established their 100 member Men's Ministry, city wide revival and the 80 member Annapolis Drum & Bugle Corp. In his eleventh year, he gives GOD all of the glory. Hallelujah!
