Your deepest truth matters. Sing it!

This world is so vast that really, the more I learn, the less I know. I am however, passionately curious and deeply interested in our world which I hope spreads to my students more rapidly than my increasing cluelessness.

I believe the arts to be education's most powerful tool in deepening meaning and awakening critical thought. I appreciate skill, but more importantly, personal reflection, honesty, relevance and kindness.

Physical activity, drama & creative movement are crucial elements in my teaching. Dance & Music of all genres are major vehicles in my classroom to teach literacy and empathy. Regardless of grade level or age, my classroom is strongly project-based.

I am trained in classical piano but it is improvisation, indigenous folk instruments and percussion that I am most fascinated with. There really should be #turntablesintheclassroom. I would fully support this movement, yet am not in a place at the moment to spearhead this myself. Contact me to discuss the possibilities however, I'd be your #1 fangirl!

In my mind, the most effective world-changers practice ALL of the following:

1) Candid and critical identification of issues (not to be mistakenly labelled as pessimism: those earnestly fighting for a better way of being are quite deeply rooted in a faith that progress will prevail);

2) Meaningful grassroots action rooted within the parameters of sustainable self-care and communities of kindness; and

3) Frequent heartfelt celebration of the beauty and unity that exists in this world TODAY. We must acknowledge WHY this world is worth preserving and improving.

May you and your loved ones maneuver through life with grace, agility and joy.

Peace from my little patch of earth to yours,

J.R. (BComm, BEd) <whatever these mean :- /
