James O'Boyle
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., our nation's capital, well technically I was raised in Maryland. "Why in hell would you come all the way here to go to school?" asked everyone I've met at the University of Georgia. At this point half of my resposnes are some made up answer on the spot because I'm tired of telling the same story over and over again. At first I was shocked that everyone was so surprised that I came here for school. The truth is there are absolutely no schools in the D.C. area that appealed to me. I wanted to escape the wretchedly cold winters and humid summer. I wanted to explore a place that is very different than what I was used to. I wanted to experience and SEC football school. I fell in love with the classic city during my visit when I was a juinor in high school. I've had relatives and friends attend UGA and heard amazing things. All of these answers and many more are too long to list when I'm making friendly conversation with someone I had just met so now I'll say something like, "Um I picked the school out of a hat" and hope they don't think I'm insane. Once everyone gets past my foreign vibe they are simply the most down to earth, loving people I have met. I love it here.
