Scott Carr
CEO, Board Member, and Advisor in San Jose, California
My passion is building companies.
I'm currently CEO of Modria, the leading online dispute resolution platform, where we're helping businesses and government agencies achieve fast and fair resolution to disputes of all kinds.
I sit on the board of Stemina, a medical diagnostics company that performs toxicity screening to assess the risk that a compound will cause birth defects. What's more, their NeuroPointDX division is developing a blood test for autism and related disorders.
Modria is my fifth startup. My first CEO gig was at HarvestMark (sold to Trimble) where we helped shoppers trace their food to the source, while international ag producers, Driscoll's, The Kroger Co and grocers around the world used our big data analytics to reduce waste in the fresh food supply chain.
In 1996 I was the 4th employee at Digimarc. Back then we had no money, no products, and no customers. I grew into a division president and EVP position, and was fortunate to be part of the leadership team that took the business public and grew it to $100M in revenue.
Before that I led marketing at nCube in the early days of video-on-demand; learned about great company culture and delighting customers in roles at Sequent Computer Systems; and exercised my software engineering muscle at a startup in semiconductor factory automation.
A customer-focused sales guy by nature, I love closing deals that solve customer problems and build customers for life. Whether that's long-term subscriptions, complex licenses, or software and services programs, I've done small deals, and single transactions over $100M.
I started coding at 13, and hold a BSCS from Oregon State University where I was admitted to the Academy of Distinguished Engineers. When I realized being in front of the customer is more fun, I got an executive MBA from the Standford/AeA program.
I love leading a highly active life. A husband and father, I'm married with a blended family of five children. I have a passion for international travel, gourmet cooking, music, cycling, and being on the water.
