Tom Buchanan

Marietta, Georgia

... I know I am solid and sound; To me the converging objects of the universe perpetually flow; All are written to me, and I must get what the writing means.

-- Walt Whitman

Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Tom graduated from Vanderbilt University, with a B.A. in Anthropology (Magna Cum Laude) and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to Princeton Theological Seminary, earned the Master of Divinity degree, and was ordained to the Presbyterian ministry in 1993 and has served churches in New Jersey and Georgia. He currently serves as Associate Pastor at Emory Presbyterian Church, near Emory University in Atlanta.

Since moving to Georgia in 1997, he has developed a wide reputation for quality teaching of intellectual and spiritual depth, with particular interests in the relationship between religion and the natural sciences, interfaith relations, and the search for meaning in a post-Christian, pluralistic age. He was the subject of an AJC “Faith & Values” feature story in July 2006 and a co-author of Sacred Spaces (Community Institute Press, 2011). In all of his teaching and professional endeavors, he is passionate about exploring the questions and treasures of the universal spiritual quest.
