JUDE LOBE
About the artist Jude Lobe
Just about all my life I have painted. I’ve painted walls, canvases, furniture and so on. In my 30′s I took 15 years off to raise to wonderful kids. My art activities took the form of weaving – much easier to jump up and nurse or take care of a baby than leaving paint to dry on the palette. As the kids began to be old enough to hold a paint brush, I took the roll as facilitator to their art endeavors. My husband built them each large easels and set them outside so we didn’t have to care about the splashes of paint that missed the canvases. When they got into school, I began teaching art. By the time they hit senior high, I jumped back into painting for myself.
At that time I began enamel classes studying under the tutelage of such wonderful enamelists as Don Viehman, Averill Shepps, and Steve Artz. I’ve been a full-time artist for about the last 15 years working in oil and acrylic paintings as well as enamel and copper. In 2006, together with 14 other artists I opened a fine art gallery in Hillsborough, NC, called Hillsborough Gallery of Arts.
