Gained deep experience in database design, user interfaces, system integration, and batch processing through intensive hands on development.
Transitioned to capital markets technology on the trading floor of a major investment bank. Focused on real time systems, starting with FX trading platform implementation during the shift from manual ticket based processes to digital trading. Spent around ten years delivering real time risk solutions. Developed expertise across UNIX, networking, and Windows environments. Built systems in C and SQL for portfolio risk evaluation. Led large scale implementations, defined requirements for new trading and risk products, and worked closely with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical systems.
Moved into technology advisory and account management for financial institutions. Worked with a small set of core clients, advising on real time messaging, system architecture, hosting strategies, outsourcing, and cost optimization. Provided guidance on emerging areas including crypto. Led and supported complex projects across multiple domains.
Continued as a technology advisor before choosing early retirement. Focus shifted to personal development and selective consulting. Activities included travel, golf, programming, and an ongoing interest in artificial intelligence. Delivered consultancy work and built websites for charities.
