Judith Hansen
Selected Dean of The Community College of Qatar in Doha in February 2010, Dr. Judith M.L. Hansen assisted in the launch of the world’s first nationwide community college in September 2010. The school opened with an enrollment of 304 students, with a second campus and evening classes added in January. The college waiting list now contains 3,000 students. With the college in full operation, Dean Hansen’s duties now include leadership for strategic planning, college operations, instructional initiatives, student and employee recruitment, and student educational development.
Prior to her role with The Community College of Qatar, Dr. Hansen served as Interim Executive Director of College Advancement and as Grants Administrator at Shoreline Community College in Washington. Dr. Hansen's service at Shoreline followed four decades with community colleges capped by presidencies at Southwestern Oregon Community College, Independence Community College in Kansas, and Olney Central College in Illinois.
Since 2008, Judith M.L. Hansen has worked in conjunction with Education Leadership Consultation, providing expert counsel on institutional effectiveness, economic development, and other issues facing higher education institutions on the local, state, national, and international levels. Throughout her career in higher education administration, Judith M.L. Hansen has achieved and been recognized for numerous accomplishments: the planning and construction of new educational and student facilities, receipt and development of millions of dollars of institutional funding, implementation of best practices that include students’ e-portfolios, and collaboration on technological milestones with the GTE Corporation first high-school-to-college fiber connectivity. Judith M.L. Hansen also spearheaded international staff and faculty exchanges, increased enrollments, and wrote district strategic plans for each college she served.
At Southwestern Oregon Community College, she collaborated with the corporate community to introduce new vocational degree programs focused on transportation, distance nursing, natural resources, and emergency medicine. She has earned recognition from the U.S. Department of Education for Workforce Education and the State of Kansas for Campus Compact Service Learning confimed institutional leadership. Judith M.L. Hansen earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and a Master of Science in Counselor Education at Iowa State University (ISU).
