Judith Piggot

Perthshire, Scotland

Initially training as as GP, I moved into Psychiatry and put my efforts into research with children and adolescents with developmental, social communication difficulties. After study of Medical Genetics, I then completed a PhD focused on understanding the areas of the brain involved in social communication in autism spectrum disorders.

In 2007 I moved to Los Angeles and directed the UCLA Autism Evaluation Clinic, where I developed the SMARTS approach to assessment and intervention in ASD. With a lifetime's experience of horses, I also began to use equine-assisted approaches for young people with ASD.

I continue to work with young people with developmental difficulties, and now live with my family in rural Scotland where I also enjoy my other passion: endurance horse riding.
