Judy Macias ‘interest and involvement in the non-profit world and volunteerism started early. As a teenager, she was a member of the board of directors of a children’s shelter in New York City which raised funds by sponsoring charter flights to Europe. In San Mateo County and on the San Mateo County Coastside, her focus has been social welfare, volunteers and community health. Judy was inducted into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2000 which acknowledged her professional and volunteer experience and service to the Coastside.
From 1980-85, Judy was Executive Director of the Coastside Opportunity Center and for many years, Manager of Community Health for Seton Medical Center and Seton Medical Center Coastside. In that role, she was also Administrator for two free RotaCare Clinics providing health care to uninsured people. At that time, she saw the need for dental care for uninsured low-income residents and, proudly, was one of the founders of Sonrisas Community Dental Center.
