Juergen Schenker

I was born 1963 in a small village, called Stotzheim, near Cologne, Germany. In 1979 I finished school and stared an apprenticeship as industrial mechanic at Degussa in Wesseling. After my Diploma in 1982 I was draftet into the German Air force doing compulsory military service of 15 month lenght. After being transferred from the Boot camp barracks in Budel/Netherlands to my new Unit at Mechernich/Germany I decided to signed up for a 4 Years contract. In early 1984 I was promoted to the rank of a Sergeant and in early 1985 to Technical Sergeant. In September 1986 I left the Air force and start working as a Welder at Rheinische Olefin Werke, a chemical plant, in Wessling on the out skirts of Cologne. Soon after that I changed internally form that position to a production worked with much higher salary, but had to do full shift. Regardless of the sometimes unpleasant working time, this job pai me well and I started traveling.

In 1988 I was contacted by a former Air force comrade to join him for a vacation to Sri Lanka. This trip was cancelled due to civil unrest and we changed our plans and visit Thailand in early 1989.
