Student in Buckhead

Hi there! I’m Jonathan. Something that I have participated in for the past several years is volunteering all around my hometown. Starting at 14, my parents and I started helping with Habitat for Humanity, an non-profit organization that helps out families that may be financially troubled. They do this by getting building materials and volunteers to build a brand new house for their family. This usually takes several months, and I've participated in building four different houses in the four years since I started. I also helped at a food shelter by taking boxes from moving trucks and sorting them. I had an enjoyable time participating in these opportunities, and it led me to participate more in my church, by becoming a church elder and helping out with children's night on Wednesdays. Volunteering has always made me feel good about helping out those who may not be able to help themselves, and I've wanted to help whenever I can ever since. While in college I've helped volunteer in a few places in Athens, including being a Student Minister at the Presbyterian Student Center (PSC). I'm very excited about this position, since it lets me lead events for other students at the PSC. As I go through college and I find time on my hands, I'll look for opportunities to volunteer in a more constant fashion, instead of doing several different ones few for a couple of months each. I plan on majoring in education to become a teacher (budding from the time I volunteered by taking care of kids at my church), but I want volunteering to also be a large part of my life. I may not know exactly what I will do (I might be more present at Habitat for Humanity, I may volunteer at summer camps, I might see if there's opportunities outside of the country or across the country), but I would love to give back to the communities that need it.
