Julia Drury

My name is Julia Drury, I am a Poli Sci major at the University of Georgia, however I am from San Diego--where I graduated from Serra High. In July of 2013 my mom and I went on a ten day safari in Tanzania; it was my high school graduation gift. I deiced that I wanted to go to Africa as my graduation present in the fifth grade when my dad and sister went to Europe for her graduation. I maintained the same desire to go experience the beauty of mother nature in the motherland for seven years, I never even considered changing my mind. Honestly, what animal lover would not choose an African safari when they had the pick of the world. Seeing elephants cross the road two feet in front of me and lions lounging right along the road was the thrill of a lifetime. The trip also gave me the gift of gaining an even greater appreciation for the life that I am fortunate enough to have here in the United States. I was able to visit a Massai village and a whole family's home was the size of my bedroom, young children were walking herds of cattle five miles to the watering hole each day--when I was their age my biggest worry was finishing my two worksheets of homework. My trip to Africa showed me that there is so much more to this world, that everyone should work to experience.
