Julia Harmon
My life as a bookwoman began when I read the family set of Compton's Encyclopedia, discovered Nancy Drew at the Blakemore Drugstore and checked out stacks of books from the Dunklin County Library in Kennett, Missouri. I made it my career when I became a branch library manager for the Pioneer Library System in Oklahoma and earned my Master of Library Science and Information Services degree from the University of Oklahoma. The highlight of my career was directing the Red Dirt Book Festival and sharing my love of books and reading with participants, authors and scholars.
Now in retirement, I am still a bookwoman, still promoting books and reading at every opportunity, expanding my own creativity through writing, and encouraging those around me to save their own personal and family stories.
