Julia Marion

Julia Marion’s love for the bassoon began when she was twelve years old in Madison, Wisconsin, where she grew up in a three-generation home filled with the sound of her grandfather’s daily piano practice. During her bachelor studies on modern bassoon, she discovered her passion for historical bassoons and moved to Basel, Switzerland to complete a master’s degree in historical performance practice at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Since completing her studies, Julia Marion has built an international performance career. Active on the baroque, classical, romantic and modern bassoons as well as dulcian, Julia is invited to play and record with internationally-recognized ensembles in Europe and the USA, including Kammerorchester Basel (Switzerland), Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (Germany), Dunedin Consort (U.K.), and the American ensembles Third Coast Baroque and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra. She performs regularly with the ensemble le buisson prospérant in Zürich. Her teachers were Cynthia Cameron-Fix, Marc Vallon, Dominic Teresi, Donna Agrell, and Alberto Grazzi. She has lived in the border region where Germany, France, and Switzerland meet since 2011.

Schon seit 2011 wohnt Julia Marion in der Dreiländerregion (Grenzzone von Deutschland, Frankreich, Schweiz) weit entfernt von ihrer Heimat, der Stadt Madison in Wisconsin (USA). Dort ist sie in einem musikbegeisterten Drei-Generationen-Haus aufgewachsen, wo sie das von ihrem Großvater gespielte Klavier täglich hörte. Nach erstem Klavierunterricht, endeckte sie, im Alter von zwölf Jahren, das für sie bestimmte Instrument: Fagott. Die Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel, Schweiz hat Julia Marion nach Europa gezogen, wo sie im Rahmen eines Masters historisch- musikalische Performance studierte. Seit ihrem Abschluss hat sie ein professionelles Netzwerk in Europa aufgebaut und tritt, nebst mit den modernen, barocken, klassischen und romantischen Fagotten, seit kurzem auch mit dem Dulzian auf. Sie wird nun von verschiedenen internationalen Ensembles in Europa und in den USA für Konzerte und Aufnahmen gebucht, unter anderem vom Kammerorchester Basel (CH), Freiburger Barockorchester (DE), Dunedin Consort (UK), und vom Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra (USA). Sie konzertiert regelmäßig mit dem Ensemble le buisson prospérant in Zürich. Ihre Lehrer waren Cynthia Cameron-Fix (Madison), Marc Vallon (Madison), Dominic Teresi (New York), Donna Agrell (Basel), und Alberto Grazzi (Mailand).
