Julian Torres

Bridgeport, Connecticut, United States

I am a graduate of the University of Connecticut. I have been very involved in peer mentor ship programs such as the Student Support Services program, which caters to first generation and low income students, the Mentoring, Educating and Training for Academic Success that caters to first year and transfer Latino students and the Kids and UConn Bridging Education program that serves middle school aged children from low income areas. I have been apart of student groups such as the Latino Student Association that aims to bring about cultural awareness and the Men's Project that seeks to eradicate rape culture from campus and educate men in their roles to do this. I am apart of a cultural fraternity, La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated, which promotes academic excellence, Latino awareness, community service and brotherhood. I have worked in the Event Services office and as a Building Manager in the Student Union building on campus.

I love to listen to music and to be outside enjoying nature. For me there is nothing better than being by the water in the summer and by a fire pit in the fall. I like to do community service with my fraternity brothers and fundraise for our philanthrophy, The Providing Access to Higher Education (P.A.T.H.E.) Initiative. I am very family oriented and believe in strength in unity.
