Only in my mid-thirties, I was put to work at a younger age and have now been enjoying my career in the private/corporate sector for 20 years.
Many people know that I worked in the HR field for many years. For the last-half of those years that I spent in Human Resources, I 'moonlighted' in the Real Estate arena as a Title and Settlement Closer, and later as a direct investor. Those were all great. They brought in healthy salaries, kept me pervasively surrounded by consummate professionals - more than my heart had time to desire. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
But that's what I had to do.
I had wanted to be a broadcast journalist since I was a kid. I was the only 15 year old boy that you'd catch watching the 24hr news channels. (What a nerd!) But the only reason I refused to work in mainstream media is because of something quite basic: I outright refused to invasively meddle in others' business and forcibly publish their details simply for reporting-sake. As an added bonus-reason, I resent the notion of being on contract-employment, in an environment where I can legally and "ethically" find myself fired simply because the station no longer wanted to "renew my contract."
No deal.
So, this is of course why I wrap my arms and squeeze-tightly around being a freelance journalist. I pick what I report on.
So what do I pick to report on?
My underlying work in the travel field. I'm a proud independent representative of the Global Resorts Network. With that line of work, I not only get to travel - literally EVERYWHERE - but I get to do it alongside people who are very comfortable financially, and therefore count it not robbery to regularly vacation at 3, 4 and 5 star luxury resorts... but I stay there at what the guests already-booked at those resorts would deem to be an unfairly low rate. And no, I don't get a discount, either. :0)
So my choice in work is to take my Global Resorts Network travel membership life, and marry it together with my life as a freelance journalist, and essentially show everyone around the world what it is like to be a member of such a prestigious travel club through journalism. Great package.
Plus, I get to executive produce my own tape! :0)
And this... is what I get to do.
