Julian Woodcock (b. 1968)

My paintings are composed mathematically: created by using a particular system and following a set of actions in a certain order. I have worked on wooden grounds, using a method of carving and I have given a certain sculptural physicality to the application of paint. Although there is a clear logic and order to the paintings they seem to me to contain an odd primitive magic and an indescribable raw intensity. I see in them old machines, kaleidoscopic future visions, a fleeting moment in the sun when I was six, the earth, the air, or something holy.
