Julia Townsend
Hello there! My name is Julia Townsend and I am currently a senior at Towson University. I majored in English, focusing on the writing track, and my minor is in Mass Communications. I have an insatiable passion for writing about anything and everything. However, I have recently discovered that literary and media theories fuel my writing cravings.
Initially, I began my college career with the intentions of becoming a high school English teacher. However, after several general education classes and multiple writing classes I decided that that was not the direction for me to pursue. I’ve always been intrigued with the persuasiveness of language and the ability to analyze texts to their very core. There are subliminal messages in everything we view whether we realize it or not and understanding why or how we view those messages has become a passion of mine.
I picked up a mass communication minor because I was always interested in media and advertising but never explored it any further than an attraction to an advertisement or commercial. As I began taking mass communication classes I began to notice the relationship between English and media much more than I had anticipated. As an English major I am trained to focus on the words and the overall language used in media, but with a developing experience in mass communication it has furthered my curiosity into media as a whole.
But besides school, I love beer. I like learning about beer, I like drinking beer, I like trying new beers from all over the world. I like trying new things and what better way to accomplish that than by trying beers from all over the world?
Aside from academics, I have played on the women’s club lacrosse team at Towson University since I was a freshman and continue to play fall ball this year. During 2011-2012 seasons I was the club president and then became one of the captains for the 2013-2014 seasons.
I also work part time as a server at The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille in Hunt Valley, Maryland. I have worked there for the past three years, initially as a hostess and then for the past two years as a server.
