I was probably born thinking about language. As a baby, when I cried, I might have said to myself, "I wonder what the tone of that 'wah' is communicating to my audience?" I cannot exist without reading and I cannot work without teaching. So, English teaching it is.
I lead a fabulous team of English teachers in a large, dynamic, metropolitan high school in Queensland, Australia. Watching young people learn about the way language works and changes in their world is the privilege of my professional life.
A recent challenge, with clever and talented co-author Lynda Wall, has been to publish a text aimed at delivering rigorous and engaging language learning to Senior students of vocational education. The opportunity offered by Cambridge University Press to publish English in Practice has been one to grab with both hands.
