Julie Carette

Hello, bonjour! My name is Julie Carette and I am a Grade 2 French Immersion teacher for the Toronto District School Board. I completed my teacher formation at Brock University in the Concurrent Education program (teachable subjects: French and English). I then pursed graduate studies at the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto, where I completed a Masters of Teaching (M.T.) degree. Through these 6 years of University, I realized that I love teaching and I love learning!

I am also a private tutor, specializing in French and English services. I began tutoring in High School on an informal basis, but then began working for a formal tutoring company in University. Over the past 9 years, I have tutored children from the ages of 3-16, as well as adults. My main focus for tutoring is literacy development (reading, writing, listening and oral communication). I also tutor children with exceptionalities, as I have Special Education qualification from OISE. Please visit the link to my website below for more information about my rates and services.

I have many goals for my future as an educator. I would like to teach in all divisions (primary, junior and senior), perhaps become a librarian and then eventually a principal. I want to continually seek professional development in order to stay current and up-to-date within the world of education. I would like to maybe one day teach at the College level, in the education pre-service department.

In September 2010, I began learning Sign Language. I plan to continue learning it until I become fluent. I love learning new languages and I find this particular one to be fascinating and very fun to learn! I use ASL in my Grade 2 classroom on a daily basis; the kids absolutely love it. It's an engaging and "hands-on" way of communicating, no pun intended!
