Julie Riggs
UK
To provide some background information; I have a MSc degree (distinction) in health and safety management and am studying my Doctorate with Middlesex University. I have worked within the health and safety profession for the past twenty years in the UK and Europe with diverse knowledge in a variety of industries; delivering effective health, safety and wellbeing management programmes which includes compliance, business strategy, risk management, policies and procedures, training and best practice projects. I am a Chartered member of IOSH (114215).
I would describe myself as an academic practitioner, with a strong self-reflection and critical appraisal quality. My strengths are influencing and leading health and safety, acting as an agent of change. I have strong technical and management knowledge and a proven record of implementing successful projects in complex organisations.
On a personal note, I have written articles for business journals, assisted with research projects, presented companies at federation level and acted as guest speaker for safety conferences. I have been interviewed by a Times Reporter and featured in a safety trade journey detailing the development of my career. I also featured in four BBC radio programme discussing health and safety, and my research. Presented at the House of Commons joint sponsored research with the CIPD concerning mental health in the workplace with published findings in the FT.
In addition to my technical and practitioner skills, I would also consider I have strong client facing proficiency and influential skills, which are essential in developing safety culture and imbedding best practice.
