I'm a Montreal based critic and journalist who recently became a code literacy activist.
In January 2012, I signed up for Codecademy's Code Year project with my 11-year old son, Ben. Over the last year I've grasped the fundamentals of JavaScript, HTML/CSS and Python. I completed Coursera's Human Computer Interaction Course, helped launch Montreal's first Mini Maker Faire in August, and am now the proud owner of a Raspberry Pi, a U.K manufactured, credit card- sized computer that retails for about $35.
I'm hoping to inspire more parents take up coding, not necessarily to become programmers, but to be part of the growing wave of enlightened amateurs who are changing the world and making sure that kids have the skills and understanding needed to keep it real.
