My name is Juliet Forde and I am a foster care advocate. My experience in the child welfare system is both personal and professional. As a child, I entered foster care at the age of five and have lived in a total of 15 homes. At age 21 I aged out of the system and have since been supporting myself with the help with a few mentors including Darryl McDaniels of RUN DMC, CEO of Fostering Change For Children, Barry Chafkin, LCSW and Sheila Jaffe, founder of The Felix Organization and Casting Director of HBO Sopranos and Entourage. At the age of 17 I began work as a co facilitator with Barry Chaffkin, helping to train foster children, foster parents, social workers and therapist. I have mentored foster children at New York City foster care agencies including. My story has also been published in a number of publications including the Daily News and Represent Magazine and have been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) for searching for my biological mother. My purpose and destiny is to change foster care by sharing my own story and to guide other youth in care down a path of success and fulfillment.
