Iam a lifelong foodie, with a long standing passion for cooking, dating back to my high school days. I detoured down the path oftheatre and performance for many years, before returning to one of myfirst loves - getting creative in the kitchen.
Likemost people, I judged my diet to be "healthy" and didn'tworry too much about what was in my food, as long as it was pairedwith a healthy dose of vegetables. We decided to try our hand at aplant-based diet several years ago, and with this came a hugetransition in lifestyle. I started reading labels, and began toquestion why I was ingesting long lists of hard to pronounceadditives and preservatives. Our diet began to shift and change toone that was whole foods based, where most of what we eat was (andis) made from scratch.
Myengagement with nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle was taken toa whole new level when I completed Meghan Telpner's CulinaryNutrition Expert program in the fall of 2013. Meghan's program blewmy mind, I learned so much and was inspired to take my education inmany new directions, including further studies in culinary arts (careof the Rouxbe Professional Plant-Based Certification), healthcoaching (care of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition) andherbalism.
Ourshift in lifestyle has expended to include non-toxic products,eco-friendly lifestyle practices and a focus on reducing consumption,to make space for experiences rather than "stuff." Buyinglocal and organic, as much as possible has now become a way of lifefor us. As a family we spend lots of time together in the kitchen, and my kids are active participants in our family meal planning, grocery shopping and food preparing activities. Getting kidsconnected with and excited about the food they are eating is a hugepassion of mine. I believe that kids are far more likely to eat whatis on their plate if they have a hand in the selection andpreparation involved in getting it there.
Iam so excited to share everything I have learned through workshops, cooking classes and individual health consults. I am a huge advocateof bio-individuality and do not exclusively support any one specificdietary choice. Each individual is unique and I am committed tohelping clients discover an approach to health and wellness thatworks best for them. I believe that small changes can produce bigshifts over time, especially when you are making those changes withsupport and accountability.
