Student in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

I currently reside in Victoria, BC, Canada, studying Sociology and Technology and Society at the University of Victoria. When not in school, I waitress but I look forward to what my undergrad degree has to offer with high hopes of traveling to study different areas of our beautiful world.

My interests range from sports to technology as I enjoy watching the Vancouver Canucks hockey team and cheering on team Canada in the olympics. However, watching sports is completely different to playing them. I am a very competitive individual, which helps in becoming a successful athlete. Although in university I have not joined any varsity teams, I received most valuable athlete of the year in senior high two years running as well as showing my leadership through being captain of almost every team I joined. I may not be the tallest person, but that certainly did not stop me from competing and doing my best. I use this analogy in school, and in my life: I may not be the smartest in the room but that will not stop me from trying to accomplish my goals.

Exploring Europe has shaped who I am today. I went from Italy to England (in a round-about way) learning about old cultures and a different way of living. I learned a great amount about myself during this trip, which my 5 top themes from StrengthFinder 2.0 have proven. I would not been able to successfully complete my Europe trip without being restorative, individualized, adaptable, disciplined, and an activator.

I am "adept to dealing with problems" and I help people "move from a position of confrontation to one of general agreement" according to my strengths finder report. Also "going with the flow" is the way I go! In this sense I don't get stressed if something comes up suddenly. Avoiding mistakes is another part of me, since I tend to follow "routine and structure". Although I may be impatient, my last strength is being an activator. This means I don't hesitate to "turn thoughts into action" and enthuse others around me to do the same. All 5 off these strengths will help me in my future career and success in finding a suitable occupation.

Overall, I'd love to continue learning who I am and finding my passions as I enter the realm of vast career opportunities. The captain of the Vancouver Canucks, Henrik Sedin, said to graduating students: "There is no shortcut to anywhere worth going..." Inspiring, motivating, yet direct is the way he leads his team. I intend to follow his lead in any leadership position I acquire.
