Julio Guardia (1979, Caracas, Venezuela) makes photos, drawings and conceptual artworks. Guardia focuses on the idea of ‘public space’ and more specifically on spaces where anyone can do anything at any given moment. His tendency toward urban anthropology and the significance of the body and its relationship with the space are the core of his work.

His photos are often about contact with architecture and basic living elements. Energy, flesh, space, landscape are examined by him. In a search for new methods to ‘read the beats of the city’, he tries to approach a wide scale of subjects in a multi-layered way, likes to involve the viewer in a way that is sometimes physical and sometimes uncorfortable.

His works directly respond to the surrounding environment and uses everyday experiences from the artist as a starting point, as well as researches of history concerns. With a conceptual approach, he tries to increase the dynamic between audience and author by objectifying emotions and investigating the duality that develops through different interpretations.

His works never shows the complete structure. This results in the fact that the artist can easily imagine an own interpretation without being hindered by the historical reality. He never forgets the social context, it's often linked or slightly referenced.
