Julius Nyang'oro

As an advisor on African political activity with Global Growth Advisors, Julius Nyang'oro draws on a distinguished academic career in his field of study. He stands out as past chair of the Department of African and Afro-American Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he had previously served as executive director of the Institute for the Comparative Study of Africa and Afro-America. A longtime member of the university's Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars, Julius Nyang'oro is a past recipient of both the Outstanding Faculty Award and the Student Undergraduate Teaching Award.

A prolific academic writer, Julius Nyang'oro has authored and edited a number of full-length books. He has also contributed original articles and chapters to numerous publications. Nyang'oro holds a PhD and MA in political science, having previously received his BA with upper second honors in the same field from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Also a recipient of a JD from Duke University, he has expanded his education with courses at the Duke Institute in Transnational Law and the Nairobi International Law Institute.
