Junaid Afeef is an experienced legal professional with over 30 years of public service. Since 2020, Junaid has served as an administrative law judge. Before that, he was a public interest lawyer for 26 years. During his time as a practicing lawyer, Junaid represented individuals in civil and criminal litigation in state, administrative, and federal tribunals. Junaid is a founding member of the Muslim Bar Association of Chicago, where he previously served terms as secretary and president. He currently serves on its advisory board. Junaid is also an active member of the Illinois State Bar Association, holding numerous leadership positions.
In addition to his dedicated service within the legal community, Junaid is also very involved in civic life in his local community. Junaid volunteers his time to guest lecture at local schools, public libraries, and community colleges on civics and public policy topics.
Junaid and his family have volunteered to serve the unhoused in various capacities over the years. One of his favorite charitable service organizations is Chi-Care.
Junaid is an avid wrestling fan. In addition to wrestling in high school, attending the “mecca” of college wrestling (fan only; not good enough to compete there), the University of Iowa. He coached youth wrestling for over 6 years, and his favorite wrestlers of all time are his sons and nephew, who also wrestled.
