Jeff Unger MD

Dr. Unger is the Associate Director For Metabolic Studies at the Catalina Research Institute in Chino, Ca. The center uniquely incorporates primary care with clinical research in areas related to diabetes, sexual dysfunction, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, pain, obesity, and mental illness. Dr. Unger is the recipient of the National Headache Foundation Speaker of the Year Award and has published over 160 peer reviewed articles, Medscape CME articles and book chapters on diabetes, mental illness, and pain management. He has discussed the use of incretin and insulin therapies on Reach MD satellite radio several times since 2010. Over the past 7 years, Dr. Unger has spoken internationally on topics linking mental illness with metabolic dysfunction, chronic pain disorders, diabetic neuropathy and ways by which primary care physicians might assist their diabetic patients to successfully achieve their metabolic targets. His medical textbook, entitled Diabetes Management In Primary Care (Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins) was published in April 2007 and is currently undergoing its first revision. A 2nd book on diabetes, edited by Dr. Unger was published by Elsevier in 2007. Dr. Unger also published a textbook in Migraine Management in 2007. Dr. Unger is the team physician for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, which is a minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Baseball Club. He has also served as a consulting physician for the World Wrestling Federation and several martial arts organizations. In 2009, Dr. Unger was honored as the “Father of the Year” by the American Diabetes Association.
