For Candace Stuart

Arapahoe Co Justice Ctr,

UPDATE: Jan. 29, 2015: No trial...defendant pled guilty to vehicular homicide yesterday. We DO still need people at sentencing. His side is hostile and will speak out about how he needs only probation. Please contact me (Candy's sister) at: [email protected] if you can write a letter for sentencing, or want to address the judge regarding punishment and your feelings about Candy's death.

**Disregard Feb. 2 trial dates**

UPDATE: Oct. 3, 2014: Trial continued to begin Feb. 2, 2015. I have no words. Please pass this message on to those who want to attend. Thanks for your help!
UPDATE: June 13, 2014: Judge said it would take "an act of God" to continue this trial again...lo, and behold, the defense came up with a medical issue that delays trial date, for a fourth time, until Oct. 6. The defendant's lawyers specialize in getting their clients off the hook.
Update: Feb. 13, 2014: The trial has been continued yet again. Just last night, the defendant, who was represented by a public defender, hired a private attorney. The DA vigorously objected, but the judge had no choice but to grant another trial-date continuance in accordance with the law--no one wants the defendant to benefit from a technicality.

OUR STORY
On July 28, 2012, my sister Candace Stuart was killed when her SUV was struck by a car fleeing Aurora police just after 10:30pm. The driver was traveling 70mph in a 30mph zone...with his lights off.Candy was returning home from a study session in Boulder related to her spirtual group. I was living with her at the time (she saved me from being homeless), and was home writing an article that night. I heard the sirens and I saw the TV news reports the next day, not knowing it was her. I got the call hours later. I miss her every day, and know that you--her friends and customers--must too. I have attended nearly all of the pre-trial hearings for the past two-and-a-half years, and outside of the district attorney and witnesses, I've been the only person on her side of the courtroom. Fortunately I have had a victim's advocate to sit with me and help during times of graphic testimony. The defendant's side always has supporters. I've been told that a jury might look at that and be swayed. WE NEED YOU!
