I was born in Europe, raised in Asia, and have been a citizen of the United States of America. I’ve stepped foot on three different continents within the first five years of my life. My roots were immediately yanked as soon as I started to settle down and conform to the customs of my current surroundings. “Where are you from?” is still a question that I am struggling to answer (especially in college). My home is everywhere. I feel the same sentiments of someone who finds a sense of closure at home in every location I have ever settled in. This is nothing but the mentality of a typical third-culture kid. Specifically, I’m a military child. My father has been serving for the U.S. Army for a long period of time and has caused my mother and I to be constantly motile ever since. Leaving friends and having to adapt to a completely different environment has not been a walk-in-the-park. All this motility and adaptation was such a hassle as a young child. Little did I know, the wisdom that was gained upon this experience built a seasoned soul within me and led me to grow as a very open-minded and mature human being. The world didn’t seem so big after all.
