Justin Haar

Justin Haar is a PhD Candidate in Medieval History at the University of Southern California. His dissertation, "Translators and Translations," asks how changes in religious personnel and doctrine occurring in twelfth-century England were mediated by the authors of saints' lives for the audience of believers. By analyzing these authors, their careers, and their intellectual networks, Justin hopes to explain how religious change was understood by its participants, how authors understood the relationships between community and saint, and how these relationships were shaped by networks of ecclesiastical intellectuals.

Justin studied History and Medieval Studies at Binghamton University before entering the History Department at the University of Southern California. His research interests include medieval Christianity, medieval England, medieval monasticism, Europe in the twelfth century, and the Digital Humanities.
He has taught courses on Medieval Europe, Early Modern Europe, the ancient world, Chinese History, and the history of business in modern East Asia.
