Justin Marcoux

Justin focuses on innovative practices in the field of philanthropy. Since joining Monitor Institute, he has helped private, corporate, and community foundations challenge old assumptions about how they operate and creatively imagine new possibilities.
Justin also writes and speaks regularly about social innovation. He has co-authored articles including “The Re-emerging Art of Funding Innovation,” which explores how foundations can better fund breakthrough social change, and “What’s Next for Community Philanthropy,” a look at the future of community foundations and other place-based funders. His work has appeared in publications such as the Stanford Social Innovation Review, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, and Alliance Magazine.
Prior to joining Monitor Institute, Justin worked at Cambridge Associates advising U.S. and European foundations, nonprofits, and universities on investing their endowments.
Justin holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he earned the Public Management and Social Innovation Certificate. He received his BA from Boston College where he earned Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude distinctions.
Justin sits on the Board of Alternatives in Action, an Oakland-based nonprofit that runs a charter high school, after school programs, and juvenile justice interventions for some of Oakland’s most vulnerable youth. He lives in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood of San Francisco.
