Justin Pywell

Justin has had a passion for all things house for well over 20 years, it all started for him dancing around a tiny little club in his hometown, Peterborough, called The Attic (god bless those fake IDs), the residents ended up forming Shades of Rhythm, it was an education he will never forget, listening to such a diverse selection of not only house but hip-hop, roots and reggae. Moving on, the desire to be involved in some way resulted in him teaming up with a friend to become a DJin' duo warming up for the likes of Carl Cox and Fabio and Grooverider (before their jungle days), the designing of flyers for local events and a brief spell in production with four friends under the guise "Fixation".

Due to a drastic change in the scene around ‘92/93 he decided to take a break from DJin’ which lasted almost ten years, although for the entire time he never lost the passion for the music he loved. A brief move to Cambridge in 2002 resulted in his desire to DJ being reignited and within a month of getting back behind the decks he was playing at various venues in the area almost every week. On returning to London, after only a year, he played at a bar in Islington every Friday, for five hours, for nearly three years, this time really allowed Justin to perfect the art of DJin’, Justin really has the knack of knowing what to drop at the right time and reads the crowd like a book. It was during this time he was approached by Hat-Club to play at their second event..

While no longer really playing out Justin has always kept his hand in behind the decks, and still retains the skill of know what tunes work well together. Justin’s musical style has taken quite a leap from his funky house days at Hat-Club and he now happiest playing the deeper flavours of both house and techno, although when asked what he plays his normal response is “I play whatever works”.
