Aloha! My name is Justin Remotap. I am from Honolulu, Hawaii, but I currently live in Circleville, Ohio (I KNOW…) Truthfully, I don’t know my dream job, but I am very interested in pattern and textile design. Although patterns are very uniform and mathematic at their core, there is something about creating patterns that feels free and unbounded. I feel this freedom of patterns that I am interested in translates into the style of my work: I appreciate the messy, uneven lines in my illustration style. There is something raw and real about having imperfections and variations in the line weight. It feels like I am breaking “the rules” by being messy and free, but I like to think I am creating new rules and a new perspective on what design can be. I like to pair this style with bright, yet controlled colors to give an overall quirky and positive feeling to my designs. I want the world to be bright and feel real and free, so that is what I always strive to create.
