Over the course of my life, school has been the main focus of my time. While school is key to developing the basic skills that allow me to succeed later on in life, I have recently realized I must use these skills outside of the classroom in order to improve them. Since I have been at Penn State, the idea of contributing my skills to something that works for the greater good of the world around me has become intriguing. So, at the end of my freshman year, I helped to develop and create a community service organization called Boulevard. Currently, Boulevard has a membership of about 70 -100 people after less than a year of existence. The overall goal of the organization is to work for the greater good of the community around us and to bring something positive into the lives of everyone involved. Since I have been involved with the project, I have been able to contribute my social networking skills and my computer skills to the organization, by building the organizational website and assisting in the continuous growth of membership. By contributing my skills, I hope to create a basis for Boulevard to continue growing and to continue to have an effect on the lives of even more people. After being a leader within Boulevard for only about 5-6 months, I have come to the realization that I want to do something bigger than just Boulevard. By being active within a community service organization, my passion for computers, leadership, creativity, and helping others has become a main focus of my attention. By working with New Leaf, I would like to continue to challenge my current skill set by taking part in projects that work for the greater good, in addition to helping to bring the innovative ideas of others, and myself, to life.
