At Red Hat, a leading open source software company, I'm the content manager for the publication Opensource.com. There, we share people's stories about how to use open source software, hardware, and principles to live, work, and play. Open source is truly moving innovation forward and is an exciting community to be a part of. Email me at open@opensource.com if you have a story to share or an idea for an article.

My hobbies are wide and varied. I blog about my life and the ever-changing lives of my fellow citizens in Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh is the state capital and home to NC State University and Shaw University. Recently, over the past 5+ years, our downtown has been reshaped and reinvented. Where once only businessmen trod, folks of all kinds come to work in high-rise offices, on urban farms at city corners, and in trendy cafes and restaurants. I've been writing on my blog since 2010 at DowntownDame.com.

I also have an intense love for nature. My mom used to find me doing homework in a wooded fort, sleeping during the rain on the porch, and daydreaming about what a wedding would be like among the blackberry bushes. Today, I own a home with my husband near Roanoke Park in Five Points. I make kombucha, sauerkraut, herbal infusions, lotion... and once upon a time my sister and I made greeting cards for our small business, Darling & Dear.

A few projects I've been involved in that I'm super proud of are:

The NeighborWoods Program for the City of Raleigh provides trees to residents. We delivered, planted, and pruned a lot of trees that year, through the summer heat and winter cold, and I'm glad to say the program is still going today. I got a sweet pair of work boots, learned how to back up a truck with a trailer attached (not easy), and how to prune a tree without harming it. This job will go down in my history as one of the hardest and most rewarding jobs I've ever had.

I've also worked for the very successful blast! PR, worked at the infamous Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, and maintained an 8 month gig as a certified nurse aide before calling a halt to a budding career in nursing.

I love content creation. A few works I've helped create are:

Editor and co-writer with Shamsa Visone of the guide, A Community Garden Handbook (2014)

Technical editor for the book, The foundation for an open source city by Jason Hibbets (2013)

Assistant Director of a short film, Trust by Paul Sapp (2012)
