Kim El Ghazal

Teacher in Ontario, Canada

I am a K-12 teacher currently living and teaching in Ontario. Having been a teacher for over 23 years, I've taught FSL (Extended French and Immersion) from grades 1-6. I have also been a Resource Teacher. I've always had a love for languages and that’s why I started my career as a French as a Second Language Teacher.

A few years ago, I joined the Special Education and Student Services Department in our board as a K-12 Assistive Technology Mentor. I helped learners with SEA equipment in acquiring the skills necessary to use technology to access the curriculum. I also had a classroom embedded role that supported the Universal Design for Learning. During the Pandemic, there was a need for French teachers so I was asked to join our Board's Virtual Elementary School for a year.

Most recently, in my role as an Itinerant Resource Teacher, I have been blessed to teach diverse groups of students including ELL students and students with multiple exceptionalities or students who struggle with self-regulation or emotional well-being.

I'm taking this course, Teaching English Language Learners Part I, because I feel the need to enhance my current pedagogical knowledge, experience and skill-set around supporting English Language Learners.

I speak three languages (French, English and Spanish). Fun Fact: My last year of high school, I went to Spain for a few weeks. The following year, I decided to study modern languages. I did a minor in Spanish! I'm currently brushing up on my Spanish.

My interests range from reading to fitness. I used to teach Zumba classes at a local gym but I'm now into strength training due to a knee injury. I am also interested in technology, and cooking and wine pairing with friends.

Looking forward to learning with you all!

Kim
